He stared hard and long,
into space, into nothing,
mind racing a thousand miles.
Breathing hard and fast,
imaginary images flashing past,
sweat heavy on contorted face, no smiles.
The battle so real,
redemption versus self damnation a big deal,
the way it’s going, victory might take a while.
Red eyes on the table,
seemingly focused, yet mind unstable,
looking at the pills all in a pile.
Bitter tears dropped from his eyes,
mind saying no, hands won’t let go,
so he delved in again and lived in his isle.
Managing addiction of any kind is no child’s play. Especially, for those trying so hard to break free. It is a love affair gone sour, yet so hard to leave behind. It takes quite a while to successfully break free. With lots of support from loved ones and God’s mercy, it is still possible.
Let us continue to show love and support to these victims in their struggle to be rehabilitated.
May God help us all.
