Water on Petals

*****

The rain stopped an hour ago.

Such aquatic torrents;

The similitude of opened heavenly flood gates.

Oh, the weight of it,

and the resonating sound of thunder claps

still hummed in  my ear drum.

Yet the sudden calm

was even more deafening;

dying rays of sunlight through the curtained windows

cast vertically overlapping shadows across the room.

Such hollow and stiffening feeling

singularly activated the prompt

for a snifter of fresh air;

plunging me out into the open and the sight

of washed paths, cleaned fence and fresh greenery.

I tottered gingerly down the damp clear paths

soaking in the unending chatter of insects unseen

mystified by the colourful beauty,

on either side a kaleidoscopic arena

of brilliant shrubs and flowers

gracing the rain washed paths.

An aesthetic magnetic pull dragged my steps,

humbling me to take a bow,

and an awed look,

at the sparkling crystals of clear water,

balanced delicately on tender petals

prompting an impulsive kiss from me,

before jauntily whistling down my way to the stream.

*****

In this rainy season in Nigeria, West Africa, we often experience very heavy rainfalls. I often marvel at the sight after the rains stop falling. It’s like a cleansing of the environment. This piece was inspired by one of such moments. I hope you enjoyed it.

Warm regards!
